Michael R. de Leon is the Senior Assistant Vice President and heads the Property & Special Risks Department in AIG Philippines. He oversees the underwriting operations and manages the profitability of Commercial Property, Energy & Engineered Risks including Contractors and Erection All Risks, Marine, and other special risk coverage attached to each line of business. His territorial scope of operations is Philippines and Guam.
Michael is also a member of the board of directors of AIG Philippines.
Michael re-joined AIG in 2002. Prior to this, he worked for Ultramar Reinsurance Brokers Inc. (Member: Zuellig Group of Companies) as a reinsurance broker; San Miguel Corporation as Risk Management Associate; KIB Risk Consultants as a risk management consultant for the Kuok Group; and Commercial Union Assurance Company as property & engineering underwriter. He started his risk management and insurance career with AIU Philippines as a risk engineer in 1981.
Michael graduated from the University of Santo Tomas Manila with a degree in B.S. Industrial Engineering. His risk management and insurance career included stints in associated organizations such as the Insurance Institute for Asia and the Pacific (IIAP) as resource speaker on Risk Management and Engineering Insurance; the Philippine Insurers Club (PIC), an esteemed Philippine insurance organization as Director and Member; the Risk & Insurance Management of the Philippines (RIMAP) as event speaker and member; and the Society of Underwriters of the Philippines (SOUND) as resource speaker and member.
Michael attended reinsurance and underwriting training at Lloyds and the Chartis/Willis Master of Energy Seminar in London. He also attended various property & engineering underwriting seminars, as well as risk and insurance management conferences within the Asia Pacific.
