Matt Harris is the Chief Executive of AIG Asia Pacific Insurance Pte. Ltd. and Head of Southeast Asia. In this role, Matt’s responsibilities extend to AIG’s businesses in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines (includes Guam and Micronesia). Prior to this, Matt was Chief Executive Officer of AIG Malaysia (since August 2010).
Matt was Chief Executive Officer of AIG New Zealand from December 2008 to July 2010. During this appointment, he was a member of AIG’s Regional Audit and Investment Committees as well as a Board Member of the Insurance Council of New Zealand.
Matt also holds directorships in AIG’s entities across the Asia Pacific, as well as the Tata-AIG General Insurance Company Limited. His other appointments in various committees and councils include:
Prior to joining AIG, Matt was based in Mumbai, India as Chief Representative for the Insurance Australia Group (IAG). He played a key role there in securing the State Bank of India as IAG’s joint venture partner.
In all, Matt has more than 25 years' experience in the insurance industry, having started his career as a Claims and Underwriting Technician at Commercial Union Insurance. Over the years, he has worked in many disciplines within the industry and in several locations including London, Melbourne, Sydney and Tasmania.
Matt completed the Executive Finance Program at Mt Eliza Business School in Melbourne and is a Senior Associate member with the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance.
