AIG Conducts its First Junior Achievement Program to Local First Graders

AIG employee volunteers, through AIG’s partnership with Junior Achievement (JA) Philippines, implemented its first Junior Achievement program entitled "JA Ourselves" to three sections of First Grade students of Muntinlupa Elementary School on July 31, 2015.

"JA Ourselves" is a four-hour program which used a story-telling approach in order to increase the students’ understanding of personal economics, to introduce the students to money with an emphasis on earning and saving money, and to help them discover that individuals can make choices and that education is important for their future.

Students then used a combination of pictures, stickers and flashcards to engage in the activities. Throughout the program, they listened to the stories and completed the activities.

Ryan de Vera, employee volunteer from Corporate Finance said, “The experience indeed brought me gladness and it helped me realize how patient the teachers are. The smiles that come from the students after the session are enough for me to take another volunteering activity.”

JP Sata, employee volunteer from Compensation & Benefits said about his experience, “I’d consider the ‘JA Ourselves’ experience as one of the most tiring four hours of my life, but truly noteworthy and rewarding. Moreover, this opportunity made me admire our Grade School teachers even more. The amount of hard work, effort and patience they put forth in teaching the children every single day are qualities that you would only perhaps appreciate better when you get the chance to do what they do.”

Junior Achievement is the world's largest organization dedicated to giving students from Kindergarten to High School the knowledge and skills they need to own their economic success, plan for their future, and make smart academic and economic choices.
